Hyderabadi Khichdi is World famous in India. It's a well known one pot meal known for it's incredible taste. Though it's quite simple on it's own, a huge array of different side dishes and accompaniments is what makes this way too incredible.
As the popular saying goes- Khichdi ke chaar yaar- Kheema, Khatta, Ghee, Achar.
In this particular version here, I have just shared only one side dish.

It's an absolutely tempting platter that can be enjoyed on any day. The guests would also love it. This is made for a yummy Breakfast on a weekend in my City. However it can be made for Lunch as well and at times when you have sudden guests or friends dropping by.
It's a delicious and a complete meal in itself. Gets done pretty much easily too. And suffices a large gathering too. Serve it with some hot and crisp Poppadoms or Papads as well for a lovely meal.

Ingredients and spices that need to be Make ready to make Hyderabadi Khichdi Kheema:

  1. 500 gm raw Rice
  2. 1/2 cup Red Lentils or Masoor Daal
  3. 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  4. 2 tbsp Oil
  5. 1 tbsp Ghee
  6. 1 inch Cinnamon stick
  7. 2-3 Green Cardamoms
  8. 2-3 Green Chillies slit
  9. 1 tsp Caraway Seeds or Shahjeera
  10. 1 large sliced Onion
  11. 2 tsp Salt
  12. 1 small bunch chopped Coriander Leaves
  13. 1/2 bunch chopped Mint Leaves
  14. FOR THE KHEEMA -
  15. 500 gm Lamb Mince or Kheema
  16. 2 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  17. 1 tsp Salt or to taste
  18. 2 Onions chopped
  19. 2-3 Tomatoes chopped
  20. 2-3 Green Chillies slit or chopped
  21. 1 tsp Garam Masala
  22. 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli powder
  23. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  24. 1 tsp Cumin powder
  25. 1 small bunch chopped Coriander Leaves
  26. 2-3 tbsp Oil

Instructions to make Hyderabadi Khichdi Kheema

  1. First of all, soak Rice and the Lentils after washing thoroughly for at least 20 minutes. Now in a non-stick pot, heat Ghee or Oil or a combination of both and add the Ginger garlic paste and the sliced Onion to it. Saute it for a few minutes until the raw smell fades away on a low heat.
  2. Add the whole Garam Masalas one by one. Also add the Garam masala and the Turmeric powders along with Green Chillies and Coriander Leaves. After about 5 minutes of sauteeing, add the soaked Rice and the Lentils.
  3. Saute for a minute and then add about 4 cups of water along with the salt. For the first 10 minutes, let it cook on high flame stirring in between, to mix everything well. After 10 minutes, lower the flame and cover. In between just keep mixing it gently. That's it. It gets done pretty quickly. Yum!
  4. For the Kheema, saute Onions and Tomatoes in enough Oil with some Ginger garlic paste and the powdered spices. Saute on a low heat until soft and mushy. Now add the Lamb Mince or Kheema to it. Also add some chopped Coriander Leaves and Garam masala. Roast all of it on a low heat until done. Adjust Salt accordingly. Do not add water to it. It should get cooked in it's own juices. It should not be too dry. Since it has Tomatoes and Onions, it's absolutely a semi dry one. Enjoy!
